The Flume Gorge is the best part of Franconia Notch State Park and a must-visit for anyone in the area. Note that there are a fair amount of mosquitoes and other insects, so be sure to bring bug repellent and dress appropriately. Our bus drive stopped so we could take pictures. Tickets cost 29 - 40 and the journey takes 2h 55m. Concord Coach Lines operates a bus from Lincoln, NH to Boston South Buses twice daily. There are also some covered bridges that can be seen on the bus ride up to the gorge and on the hike back to the visitors center. Yes, the driving distance between Flume Gorge to Boston is 136 miles. You can take the bus back if you don't want to hike as much or have less time. ![]() The scenery was not as nice on the walk back, but it was still a nice stroll through the woods. We rode the bus up to the gorge and hiked back to the visitor center. You do have to be able to go up and down stairs, but virtually anyone can go through the gorge. There is an extensive boardwalk constructed in the gorge, so navigation is easy and safe. The views and scenery are amazing, and the hike is a good length. The Flume Gorge at Franconia Notch state park offers a unique hike through a gorge with rushing water. ![]() ![]() But you can take another trail to the top of the flume, and also back track from Liberty Gorge! So this is an absolute MUST see! The sights are amazing! The hike is strenuous so someone with a medical condition may want to think about it, although the do have a shuttle bus to the base of the flume and you can easily go partially up! The rest of the trails will give you a cardio workout although they are easy trails and wood plank walk ways on the Flume, but keep in mind they will be wet and slippery so wear the right shoes! Also be sure to bring a light jacket! It was over 80 the day we went, but in the gorge it was 47! I would also like to mention this is high dangerous places! So very young toddlers and children in strollers may not be a good choice! You WILL be climbing wet stairs! But if you have older kids, this is a GREAT family outing! ladder is my limit, so use your own judgement! About the the last 75 yards to the top of the Flume I could not do, and the bridge across Liberty Gorge. I want to start out addressing my fear of heights! There were two places I could not make it to, but a 6 ft.
